This is a summary to explain the selection process for the Honors ELA program in grade 7.
Selection is based on the following criteria:
1. 90% average in ELA and Reading 6 for marking periods 1, 2 and 3 report cards.
2. Demonstration of:
Strong academic motivation
Maturity appropriate for accelerated placement
high level of responsibility in completing assignments
Above Grade Level Reading and Writing Skills
3. Strong reading, writing and math skills / student is not identified for RTI support.
4. Results of the student placement exam which will be administered in early May.
5. Teacher recommendation
Parents will be notified by letter if their child has met the criteria and is recommended for placement in the grade 7 Honors ELA program in June. Final placement is contingent on the final marks in ELA and Reading remaining a 90% or above.
