Just nineteen miles south of Albany, the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District offers the beauty and relaxation of rural living in an area that has easy access to the immediate Capital District as well as to New York City (90 minutes) to the South, Boston(120 minutes) and the Berkshires to the East and Saratoga Spings and the Adirondacks less than 1 hour to the north.

Recreational opportunities abound in this community nestled along the shores of the Hudson River. For Winter sports enthusiasts, a thirty-five minute drive provides access to the celebrated ski resorts of southern Greene County.

Coxsackie is an area that balances its historical heritage with development. Investments in our riverfront villages is spurring interest from NYC "transplants" and alumni seeking to return to their hometown. Sleepy Hollow Lake Home Association is undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade to their infrastructure. A business and technology park hosts major distribution centers for the Save-a-Lot grocery corporation, Empire Merchants wine and spirits,  Essendix office supplies and Ferguson Plumbing as well as a production center for Serta Mattress. Other new businesses are also emerging in the Coxsackie and Athens area, which is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for vacation travelers as well as for those seeking to relocate. A wide variety of housing, from historic Victorians to contemporary chalets can be found throughout this 75+ square miles encompassed by the school district.

The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District enrolls approximately 1325 students in grades K-12. Coxsackie Elementary School (Grades K-4), Coxsackie-Athens Middle School (Grades 5-8) and the High School (Grades 9-12) all share one campus in the Village of Coxsackie. Edward J. Arthur Elementary School, also a K-4 building, is in the Village of Athens. The district recently completed a capital project in 2018 that modernized all the speciality learning spaces in the high school including our award winning library and Dream Fab.

Technology is the backbone of contemporary learning, and the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District offers a technology infrastructure which supports many innovative initiatives. The district offers each student a mobile device and many classrooms are now paperless.  Students have access to additional courses via three distance learning labs.

Coxsackie-Athens students take advantage of the 115 college credits offered that often result in our graduates entering college with sophomore standing. The high school offers advanced placement and college credit courses in up to nine disciplines, an environmental science course which literally uses the Hudson River as its "classroom," engineering and computer science courses, advanced manufacturing pathway courses leading to national certification, and the highly competitive New Visions programs for upper level students seeking a unique opportunity to work in medical, technological, arts-based, or communications fields in a career-shadowing model that has been replicated throughout the state. We currently have students enrolled at Tech Valley High School, a regional high school sponsored by the Capital Region and Questar III B.O.C.E.S., at which students will engage in project – based learning with real world applications. Students also attend Bard College for 1/2 days experiencing a liberal college experience. We also offer 37 clubs and activities, and 42 teams in 20 interscholastic sports; many able to compete in our newly(2018) renovated stadium.

We are proud of our district and of our students. We help every student every day become college, career and life ready. Coxsackie-Athens is a place that inspires all learners to achieve extraordinary success.
