This is a summary to explain the selection process for the accelerated math program in grade 6.
Selection is based on the following criteria:
1. 90% average in math 5 for marking periods 1, 2 and 3 report cards.
2. Demonstration of:
abstract thinking and problem solving
strong academic motivation
maturity appropriate for accelerated placement
high level of responsibility in completing assignments
3. Strong reading, writing and math skills / student is not identified for RTI support.
4. Results of the student placement exam which will be administered in early May.
5. Teacher recommendation
Parents will be notified by letter if their child has met the criteria and is recommended for placement in the grade 6 accelerated math program in June. Final placement is contingent on the final mark in math remaining a 90% or above.
