Protecting Our Students and Staff

Coxsackie-Athens Central Schools takes student and staff data seriously and has measures in place to protect access. This page is dedicated to assist families in understanding privacy and security relating to their children.

New York State Requirements

New York State has a dedicated website containing a variety of resources and information regarding student data privacy. There are many valuable links providing in depth information, laws, and regulations.

Staff are required to participate in annual training on cyber security and data privacy via online training resources. RIC ONE is a leading Regional Information Center on data privacy resources.

New York State Regulations have detailed explanation regarding requirements for districts. Part 121 is the specific regulation on data privacy & security. Part of the requirement is for districts to make available to parents the opportunity to report an incident to the Data Privacy Officer. Please use the link to report a possible unauthorized break of data.

Board of Education Policies

The Board of Education has several policies to address expectations for student use and security. Acceptable Use/Code of Conduct (5300), Computer Use (4550), and Breach of Security directly relate to guidelines governing policies and procedures. Data Security and Privacy Policy (4950) is another Board of Education policy required by New York State.

District Software Purchases

Software and Law 2D contracts are updated annually and are required to be posted by the district. This list is updated as software is purchased by the district. Some resources are available through our BOCES or RIC therefore some links are under those contracts.

District Parent Bill of Rights is a required document and available for parent review. Each organization required to sign a Law 2D agreement is also provided a Parent Bill of Rights.
