Since the sixth grade Social Studies curriculum is based on learning about ancient history, what better way to culminate the year than by going on a field trip to a place that will take you back in time? The sixth graders were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on June 5 and 6 led by teachers Mr. Herwick and Ms. Bradt. It was a day that will be remembered for a long time and some students are even looking forward to going back soon with their families.
On Wednesday, May 24 the Drama Club sponsored a field trip to NYC to see a new Broadway show entitled BANDSTAND. Students in band, chorus and the High School Drama Club enjoyed this amazing musical which tells the story of a group of veterans returning home to the United States after World War II. Struggling to fit into their old lives while dealing with the lingering effects of the war -- including post-traumatic stress and survivor's guilt for friends who did not survive -- they form a band composed solely of veterans to compete in a national radio contest in New York City. The Drama Club traditionally takes two field trips a year to Broadway to give the opportunity for our students to enjoy and experience professional theater on the “Great White Way”.
Fortunately at C-A we have teachers and staff who truly care about all kids. They personify what is best about the people who work at C-A. We recently worked to synthesize these positive behaviors and came back to three key values(behaviors) that we feel clearly identify who we are. We have GRATITUDE in knowing we have an enormous responsibility each day to help kids be successful and there is no better satisfaction than working in a school where kids come first. We understand each child has a story and by getting to know each of our students our EMPATHY for their challenges and successes guides our support for them. Finally, we know that in order for us and our students to continually improve everyday we must HAVE HOPE and TAKE POSITIVE ACTION.
These core values along with five anchor strategies(learn more about these athttps://www.cacsd.org/domain/524 ) provide us the lens and filter in our daily decisions and actions as we strive to be a school that inspires all learners to achieve extraordinary success. We invite you attend the many events we host throughout the year and see our students in action.
