Statement Regarding Social Media Post and Football Game Postponement
The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District wishes to provide an update regarding the social media post that prompted the postponement of tonight’s football game.
Following a thorough investigation, law enforcement agencies have determined the source of the post and concluded the following:
There is no threat. Law enforcement has verified that there was neither intent nor means to carry out what was posted.
The post originated from a Coxsackie-Athens student.
The post constitutes a violation of the District’s Code of Conduct under Inciting or Participating in a Disturbance. The matter will be addressed by school administration in accordance with the Levels of Intervention and Disciplinary Responses outlined in the Code of Conduct.
This incident underscores the importance of responsible social media use. Online comments made in jest or as “smack talk” can quickly escalate and lead to significant consequences for individuals and the broader community. The District does not condone such behavior from students or adults. Parents and guardians are encouraged to actively monitor their children’s online activity and to model respectful and appropriate communication on social media platforms.
The District extends its sincere appreciation to the Greene County Sheriff's Department, the New York State Police and the Questar III BOCES health and safety Service for their prompt and collaborative response throughout this investigation.
Superintendent Randy Squier stated, “I want to express my apologies to the student-athletes, their families, and fans from both Coxsackie-Athens and Hudson who were affected by tonight’s postponement. As a former football player and coach, I understand how disappointing and disruptive such a situation can be. I look forward to Monday’s game between our schools, which I am confident will reflect the values of sportsmanship, respect, and fair play.”
The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District remains firmly committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement, families, and the broader community to promote responsible citizenship, digital awareness, and respectful conduct—both online and in person.
