construction

Phase 1 of the Capital Project is officially underway, and we are excited to share the first round of updates with our school community. Throughout the project, we will provide regular progress reports so families and community members can stay informed about the work taking place across our campus.

Important Reminder: While construction is in progress, the Coxsackie Elementary (CE) and Edward J. Arthur Elementary (EJA) playgrounds will be closed to the public for safety reasons.

Stormwater and Drainage Improvements

One of the first major tasks involves improving stormwater management near the field hockey playfield and along the route toward Washington Avenue. Crews have begun to mitigate the issue and tie into existing drainage systems. The drainage piping is replacing broken piping that previously existed, not adding new or more.

Widening and Replacing “The Path”

Construction has also begun on the replacement and widening of the pathway leading from the school building toward Washington Avenue.

Work includes:

  • Removing existing asphalt pavement.

  • Widening the pathway from the building exit along its entire length.

  • Improving accessibility and pedestrian flow.

Coxsackie Elementary Playground Updates

The Coxsackie Elementary playground is receiving several exciting improvements designed to create a safer, more inclusive, and more engaging play space.

Planned upgrades include:

  • Removal of some existing play structures.

  • Creation of a grassy open playfield area.

  • Replacement of an existing paved area with a concrete pad featuring multiple interactive play pieces that are ADA accessible.

  • Installation of an ADA-accessible “Whirl” spinning playlet with surrounding poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing.

  • Addition of a VersaCourt area for four-square and hopscotch games.

  • Replacement of existing ground surfacing with engineered wood fiber playground mulch to improve safety and drainage.

Middle School Roof Replacement

Roof replacement work has also begun at the Middle School. Materials and dumpsters have been delivered, and crews have started construction.

The project includes:

  • Removal of approximately 5,200 square feet of existing roof construction down to the roof deck.

  • Removal of associated metal roof fascia.

  • Installation of a new roof system consisting of an EPDM membrane over a minimum of 5.5 inches of rigid roof insulation.

  • Installation of new wood blocking and metal roof fascia.

  • Reconstruction of the middle parking lot near the athletic entrance (the lot will be closed during construction).

  • Updates to the EJA playground.

  • Improvements to the EJA basketball court.
