Coxsackie-Athens Middle School had a special guest this week! Coach Robert Sliwinski from NY Rugby stopped by to introduce our students to the sport of rugby during some special PE classes.

Students kicked things off with a series of drills designed to teach them the basics of the game. They put their reflexes to the test with a challenge to see who could grab a cone the fastest before moving on to one of rugby's biggest differences from football, passing backward!

Once students got the hang of passing, they put their new skills to work, running drills with their classmates and practicing how to stop the opposing team from scoring. The class wrapped up with a pickup game, giving students the chance to put everything they had learned into action.

Coach Sliwinski shared his excitement about introducing students to a new sport, saying, "We're excited to be here in Coxsackie and introduce students to rugby. It's a great opportunity to get kids moving, working together and try a sport they may not have had the chance to experience before.”

Experiences like this are just one of the many ways Coxsackie-Athens encourages students to stay active, try new things and discover new interests while having fun with their classmates. Students had a blast trying out a new sport this week and are already looking forward to playing again later this semester!

A special thank you to Coach Sliwinski for spending time with our students and to Coach Wlodarczyk for organizing this opportunity for our middle school!
