Coxsackie-Athens High School guidance counselors held a college preparation seminar to help seniors get ready for life after graduation. Students learned how to navigate Naviance and the Common App, giving them the tools they need to start their college applications.

Naviance is a college, career, and life readiness web platform that helps students explore their options after high school and stay organized throughout the planning process. Students also learned about the Common App, an online college application platform that allows students to apply to multiple colleges and universities through one application system.

The seminar covered important parts of the college application process, including how to request letters of recommendation, apply to schools, keep track of application requirements, and stay organized throughout the process.

Students also had the opportunity to hear from a special guest speaker, Katie Szalda, a representative from Siena College, who shared information and insight to help students better understand the college experience and what to expect as they take their next steps.

Throughout the school year, representatives from colleges around the region have also been visiting C-A to meet with students, answer questions, and share information about their schools. These visits give students the opportunity to speak directly with college representatives, learn more about different campuses and programs, and explore their options beyond high school. Having these conversations helps students get a better feel for what different colleges offer as they consider where their future might take them.

Preparing students for life after high school is an important part of the Coxsackie-Athens experience. Opportunities like these help students build the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills they need to make informed decisions about their futures, whether their next step is college, a career, the military, or another path. By giving students the tools to plan ahead and take ownership of their future, C-A continues to support our commitment to college, career, and life readiness.

A big thank you to our high school counselors for putting this event together and for helping our students take the next steps toward their futures. We appreciate all they do to support our seniors as they prepare for life after C-A!
