be in school

Dear Parents,

In the last week each building generated attendance letters for any student who has been absent from school 3 or more days since the start of school.

This is a practice we have been following since 2018 in cooperation with the Greene County District Attorney. Each month these letters are sent to parents of any students who have been absent 10% or more of the days of session up to that date. There is much research that shows students who are not in school for 10% or more days have higher failure and drop out rates. For a typical school year this is 18 days or about 2 days per month.

We know this year absences may be related to quarantine. If a student was in quarantine and attended classes remotely, those days are not counted as absences. If a student is in quarantine and did not attend remotely the day is charged as an absence. Kids need to be attending class in person or remotely if on quarantine.

We understand circumstances unique to your child may occur that would inflate their absences from learning.  As the letter states, if you feel your student is being marked absent incorrectly please contact the school office your child attends.

Thank you
