The Coxsackie-Athens CSD Weekend Backpack Program is designed to meet the needs of children when other resources are not available, especially on the weekends. There are many ways to register for the program discreetly. Check out the flyer for more info!
On Friday, January 10, Governor Hochul stated that she will include full funding for statewide universal free school meals in her upcoming 2026 Executive Budget. The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District is fortunate to participate in this program already and has seen the positive impact that access to free meals at school has on student performance. The funding will bring this successful program to all schools in New York State.
Mary DiStefano, Food Service Director as CACSD, has been working closely with Senator Michelle Hinchey in championing universal free school meals for all students, regardless of their economic situation.
According to the Governor, free school meal programs save parents an estimated $165 per child in food costs per month. We will continue to update the community on this important development as the Governor unveils her tentative budget in the coming weeks.
The Coxsackie-Athens Central School District is thrilled to announce that it has received a grant from the Greene County Legislature through the Wayne Speenburgh Legislature Grant Program.
This generous funding will allow the District to provide Apple Pencils to students at the Coxsackie-Athens Student Helpdesk at no cost to taxpayers. With these tools, students will enhance their skills using their 1:1 iPads and share valuable tips and tricks with faculty and staff.
Apple Pencils allow users to write, sketch, and draw on iPads with precision, giving a natural feeling as if they were using a pencil on paper.
“We are grateful for this generous grant,” Coxsackie-Athens CSD Superintendent Randall Squier said. “This new technology continues our commitment of opening new doors for creativity and innovation in the classroom. We thank the Greene County Legislature for investing in the growth of our student body.”

The next Parent Community Council meeting is on Monday January 13th at 6:30pm in the High School Library. All are welcome to attend!
Topics of this meeting will include recognizing achievement, marketing Pre-K to new families and parent engagement, counseling for college and career, and the capital project.

Varsity Girls Basketball Recap: Saturday 12/21
The Varsity Girls hosted a non-league matchup against the visiting Lansingburgh Knights. The focus of practice after a tough win on the road earlier in the week was to get back to "us" - with an emphasis on transition - get out and run... but some may say our Riverhawks soared to new heights with an impressive offensive showing!
Right off the jump we executed a classic jump ball scoring first with a quick layup and that set the tone early. Anticipation was also brewing as Junior, Baileigh Briski was just 34 points away from entering the 1,000 Point Club! The Riverhawks executed the game plan and ran the floor well in transition and scored nearly all of their points in the first half off of full court, clean passing and layup finishes. Briski finished with 30 points... at the half.
It was only a matter of time - Baileigh chipped away and connected for a 3-pointer when the buzzer sounded to signal her impressive achievement! Briski was greeted at center court by her teammates and Coaches as fans all over the gym echoed their congratulations!
The Riverhawks capitalized on a 92-25 win over the Lansingburgh Knights and were unselfish, despite the offensive clinic they put on for the crowd. A team and season high number of assists was the result of beautiful passing and impressive finishes in transition! The entire squad put in solid minutes on the floor and contributed to the win this afternoon.
Reaghan Hellen finished with 23 points, Annabelle Hagen (12) and Madi DeRose (7) each collected their season high totals, while Cam Slater finished with 11. Riley McDonald chipped in with 2 (2-2 from the FT line) and demonstrated her usual control under the boards.
Briski finished with 37 points and secured her spot in the record books, as she is only the third player in the Girls Basketball Program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone!!
The Riverhawks will enjoy a well-earned break to spend time with loved ones around the Holiday Season but will be back in action at HOME on Saturday 12/28 at 12:30pm vs Johnstown!

2nd graders at EJA made art with artificial intelligence in Adobe Firefly! Students created AI prompts using their knowledge of Georgia O'Keeffe's work. This new, innovative culminating activity follows weeks of hands-on artmaking and lessons in art history. #CA_RightHereRightNow
Coxsackie-Athens High School senior Amanda Frank achieved an incredible milestone by being selected as a member of the 2024 All-State Mixed Chorus! This prestigious honor came after Amanda earned a perfect score on her Level VI NYSSMA solo this past April, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication.
Over the course of four days starting Dec. 5, 2024. Amanda joined 250 talented singers from across New York State in Rochester for an unforgettable experience of music and collaboration. Her hard work and vocal artistry shone brightly throughout this event, and especially at the concert at the historic Kodak Hall on Dec. 8, 2024.
Mrs. Edwards, along with the entire school community, is extremely proud of Amanda's accomplishments and the honor she has brought to our music program. This is Mrs. Edwards' first student to be selected to All State since she started in 2009. Congratulations, Amanda! #CA_RightHereRightNow

The Technology Department at Coxsackie-Athens High School attended Tech Awareness Day hosted by NERIC today at the Albany Capital Center! Students and staff were able to attend sessions and learn about up-and-coming technology, apps, and extensions to help bolster learning. Our students had a great time playing with the newest tech toys. Students also practiced their career readiness skills when working with different vendors. On Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024 a group of Coxsackie-Athens High School Varsity Club student-athletes volunteered their time and energy to participate in a wide variety of activities with elementary teammates at both EJA and Coxsackie Elementary Schools!
Student-athletes who chose to attend EJA were able to assist in tie-dying activities while the Coxsackie Elementary group assisted in several different classrooms. All of our student-athletes were greeted with huge smiles and were appreciated by both our youngest of students and teachers alike.
The Varsity Club is designed to help foster school spirit and provide opportunities to give back and Dec. 10 was an incredible day to see those items in action! Go Riverhawks! #CA_RightHereRightNow
