🚀 Our future engineers were busy dreaming big this weekend!
On Saturday, January 17, 2026, 10 middle school students traveled to Shaker High School to compete in the Future City Albany Regional Competition alongside Technology Teacher Andrew Wager and Math Teacher Garrett Mackey. After months of hard work, our students proudly showcased their futuristic city, Cidade Dos Siete, inspired by the cultural landscape of Brazil and designed to solve real world challenges like food waste and access to fresh food. A city with a $100 budget and designed to exist 100 years in the future.
From “locust bots” that monitor crops to an AI powered grocery store that helps reduce waste, these creative thinkers truly impressed the judges. Their dedication paid off with two awards, Most Innovative Moving Part and Best Design and Construction of a Bridge. They even had the chance to celebrate with Congressman and former engineer Paul Tonko.
We are so proud of our students for their creativity, teamwork, and perseverance. The future is looking very bright. 👏

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Betty Cure, a longtime and dedicated servant of the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District, who passed away on December 27, 2025.
Betty devoted years of service to our schools in our business office. Throughout her career, she made a lasting impact on generations of students, colleagues, and families through her commitment, kindness, and unwavering support of public education. In recognition of her contributions to the community, Betty was honored as an inductee into the Coxsackie-Athens Wall of Honor, a distinction reserved for individuals whose service has left a meaningful and enduring legacy.
In accordance with Board of Education Policy 1840, flags on campuses will be flown at half-staff for three days in her honor as a sign of respect and remembrance.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Betty’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with and knowing her. Her dedication to the Coxsackie-Athens Schools community will be remembered with gratitude and respect.
