Class of 2019 graduate Anya Josberger earned the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence recently.
Anya is working toward her Bachelor of Science in marine transportation. She has been on the Admiral’s List every semester she has attended Maritime College.
Anya completed one of two Summer Sea Terms. She is a member of the Regiment.
She is a student-athlete and plays on our women’s soccer and lacrosse and is the team captain for both.
The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence acknowledges students who
have received recognition for distinguished achievements. It is the highest
honor bestowed upon a student by the University. This year, 193 students
from 63 campuses will receive this award.

Yesterday, Georgia Banik and Isabella Bushane were recognized as outstanding students at a Greene County recognition breakfast hosted by the YMCA. Josh Pray was honored as an outstanding educator. Thank you to the Y for sponsoring this event and celebration of the achievements these students and teacher are accomplishing.
Georgia Banik
Georgia is a 9th grade student at Coxsackie-Athens High School. Georgia is currently a member of the Student Council and Interact Club, treasurer of the Drama Club, and is the secretary, treasurer, and event coordinator for the American Sign Language Club. Georgia has served coffee and food to her local church community since she was in 4th grade. She is currently volunteering as a mentor and tutor for 3rd graders and has been awarded the coach’s award for team spirit for volleyball the last two years. She has also helped both her volleyball team and ASL Club with multiple fundraisers. Georgia will always continue with community service because she finds helping others greatly self-rewarding.
Bella Bushane
Bella is a 9th grade student at Coxsackie-Athens High School. She is the freshman class secretary and NJHS Kindness Group Advisor. She has been tutoring students in algebra and is part of the STAR program where she mentors younger students. This past fall, Bella was selected as a guide for a national superintendent’s conference where she gave tours and talked about her experience as a C-A student. She is a member of the Drama Club and Youth Summit, works at the student help desk and plays both school and travel softball. Bella Strives to lead by example and truly believes kindness matters.
Josh Pray
Mr. Pray is a 7th grade ELA teacher at Coxsackie-Athens Middle School. He has worked in education for over 15 years and in the classroom for the last ten. Mr. Pray helps to create the yearbook, directs the school play, teaches SAT prep classes and mentors new teachers to the district. He created and supervised the Mindfulness Club for students in grades 8-12 and this year was the Assistant Modified Football coach. Mr. Pray has been described as consistently displaying caring, respect, honesty and genuine concern for all of his students. He loves that he gets to share his passion for language and learning with the future of America and helps them learn not only the power of language, but also the potential within themselves.
Coral Vizzie is our 10th grade Rotary Club Student of the Month for April. "She is a very diligent student who takes great pride in her work. She provides a dignified, calming presence in the classroom, and exudes quiet, confident leadership. In addition to her scholarship in the classroom, she is a successful student-athlete as a runner on the cross-country and spring track teams. She also shows her artistic side by singing as a soprano in the high school chorus, and demonstrates her caring, compassionate nature by serving in the Interact Club. Coral is one of the students whose presence makes C-A a better school for her classmates, teachers, and everyone at the school."

Stella Phoenix has been selected as the 7th Grade Rotary Student of the Month. Stella is a wonderful, kindhearted student who has grown so much since the start of the school year. While she has a quiet demeanor, Stella is a bright student who truly tries her hardest to be the best that she can be in the classroom. She actively participates in class discussions and puts 100% effort into her work. Stella has also been a helpful hand to other students in the classroom, assisting her peers with their work while keeping a positive attitude. Congratulations Stella, we are proud of you!

Please be aware that there have been multiple suspected swatting phone calls in our immediate region indicating an active shooter at local school districts today. C-A has NOT received a swatting call at this time containing this message. Please know that law enforcement will be called if this occurs and the district will press charges to the fullest extent of the law towards those responsible.
If we do receive such a call we will follow our safety procedures regarding threats and communicate more information at that time.

This past week we began training all staff in hands only CPR and also AED usage. After the incident at the Bufalo Bills game earlier this year, Mr. Squier put out the challenge to have all staff trained. Thank you to our Principal for Student Support Alyssa Dyer for organizing this training and our nurses and PE staff for providing the training.
