As you may know, there is currently an Air Quality Health Advisory for the Coxsackie-Athens CSD area resulting from the wildfires in Canada. AirNow, an air quality monitoring system run by several government agencies, currently shows Coxsackie-Athens CSD’s air as unhealthy. Physical Education classes and recess throughout all levels will be held indoors today, Wednesday, June 7. Please know that the health and safety of our students and staff members is our top priority. The District will continue to monitor the situation throughout the week.

Tonight voters approved the $36,030,000 budget plan for the 2023-2024 school year with 440 YES Votes to 236 NO Votes. The results for three open terms to serve on the school board are: Ina Griffin-Guilzon: 455 Sam Anderson: 355 Jamie Dorr: 475 Tara Bachner: 459 Write-ins: 9 Proposition 2 to establish a capital reserve passes with 442 YES Votes and 217 NO Votes. This budget is a $1,319,232 (3.80%) increase over the current year’s budget. The estimated overall tax levy is 2.93% which is below the allowable tax levy cap. For next year the district will be adding from this year’s budget 2 paraprofessionals for special education and one clerical position. There will be no cuts to academic programs and services. This budget proposal preserves all sports and extra-curricular programs and maintains our historical small class sizes in all buildings. Historically, the percentage voting Yes is 7% over the 60 year average. The total votes cast of 676 is the lowest turnout since 1989. Thank you to everyone who participated in the budget process. We appreciate everyone who voted. Thank you to our board candidates for wanting to serve our school community.
